Behind every number is a real person navigating housing instability, financial strain, and a lack of consistent support. At 419 Ministries, we recognize that these challenges are often interconnected, and lasting change rarely comes from addressing only one area of need. Meaningful progress requires stability, trusted relationships, and a supportive environment where growth can take place over time.

Our approach is built around walking alongside men as they rebuild—providing structure, guidance, and community that support both immediate needs and long-term independence. By creating space for accountability, personal development, and spiritual growth, we help men move forward with clarity, confidence, and purpose.

The following section outlines the specific resources and services through which 419 Ministries puts this approach into practice and supports men at each stage of their journey.
What we do
Safe and Stable Housing
For many of the men who come to us, simply having a stable place to sleep is something they haven’t experienced in years. Our homes offer more than a roof — they offer consistency, dignity, and the first real sense of security many residents have felt in a long time. Here, men walk into a clean, Christ-centered environment where they are surrounded by structure, positive community, and healthy expectations. This stability becomes the foundation for every other step they’ll take toward healing, sobriety, and purpose.

Clean, furnished housing with clear expectations and routines

A sober, secure environment built on accountability

Curfews, community guidelines, and shared responsibilities

Staff and mentors who check in regularly

A culture of brotherhood instead of isolation

Why it matters: Many men coming from prison, addiction, or homelessness have never experienced consistent stability. Before transformation can happen, they need safety. Housing provides that first essential step.

Faith and Discipleship
Every man who enters our homes is carrying years of pain, labels, and false identities. Through intentional discipleship, we help them rediscover who God created them to be. Whether they are brand new to faith or returning to it after years away, our discipleship process gives men space to explore Scripture, grow spiritually, ask honest questions, and experience the love of Christ in community. This spiritual grounding provides direction, purpose, and the hope needed to walk in lasting transformation.

Daily devotions and Scripture reading

Weekly group Bible studies

One-on-one mentorship and pastoral care

Church involvement and community worship

Guidance in prayer, spiritual disciplines, and building a strong faith foundation

Why it matters: Many residents are starting over in more ways than one. Discipleship provides the grounding, hope, and direction needed to rebuild a life on something solid.

Recovery and Accountability
Recovery is more than getting sober; it’s learning how to live in freedom. For many residents, addiction, shame, and unhealthy patterns have shaped their lives for years. In our homes, men find a safe and supportive environment where honesty is valued and vulnerability is encouraged. Through accountability, mentorship, and daily encouragement, they begin addressing the deeper issues beneath addiction and brokenness. Our approach helps men build new habits, confront old wounds, and embrace a lifestyle rooted in truth and community.

Access to recovery meetings and support groups

Structured accountability through check-ins

Peer community that encourages honesty and vulnerability

Guidance in addressing past hurts, triggers, and cycles

Tools for relapse prevention and emotional health

Why it matters: Long-term freedom doesn’t come from willpower alone. Recovery requires community, consistency, and people who will walk with you through both victories and setbacks.

Work Readiness and Life Skills
Thriving outside of crisis requires more than desire — it requires practical tools. Many of our residents are rebuilding every part of their lives at once: employment, finances, routines, relationships, and basic life skills. We walk with them step-by-step as they learn what healthy responsibility looks like day to day. From applying for jobs and building résumés to managing money, caring for a home, and communicating well, men gain the confidence and competence needed to stand on their own feet and step into sustainable independence.

Job readiness training: resumes, interviews, workplace habits

Job-search support and employer partnerships

Financial literacy (budgeting, savings, banking)

Teaching life skills like cooking, cleaning, scheduling, and communication

Support in accessing transportation, proper clothing, and necessary documents

Why it matters: A stable job builds confidence and independence. Equipping men with life skills ensures they can sustain their progress long after the crisis has passed.

Transition and Re-Entry Support
Graduation is not the end of the journey — it’s the beginning of a new chapter. Transitioning back into independent living can feel overwhelming, especially for men who have spent years surviving one crisis after another. Our transition support ensures they don’t walk into this new season alone. We help graduates set goals, establish routines, stay connected to mentors, and plug into healthy community. This ongoing encouragement provides the stability needed to maintain their progress and continue growing long after they leave our homes.

Transition planning with personalized goals

Follow-up mentorship even after graduation

Connection to church, community, and support systems

Help with securing housing and transportation

Guidance in building healthy routines and relationships

Why it matters: Men do best when they don’t feel alone after leaving structured support. Ongoing relationships help graduates stay grounded, encouraged, and connected.

Who Are We

Meaning Behind Our Name

The name 419 Ministries comes directly from Matthew 4:19, where Jesus invites His followers by saying, “Follow Me, and I will make you fishers of men.” These words have always been the heartbeat of our mission. Before we were known as 419 Ministries, we carried the name Fishers of Men, a reflection of our calling to walk alongside men in crisis and lead them toward hope, purpose, and new life in Christ.

The shift to “419 Ministries” wasn’t a departure from that calling — it was a deepening of it. The numbers serve as a simple, memorable reminder of the verse that continues to shape who we are and why we exist. Everything we do flows from that invitation: to follow Jesus, to be transformed by Him, and to help others do the same.

Our name is more than branding. It’s a declaration of identity, a reminder of our roots, and a commitment to the mission Jesus entrusted to His disciples — to reach, restore, and walk with men as they discover who God created them to be.

Mission & Vision Statement

MISSION - 419 Ministries provides stable, Christ-centered housing and holistic support for men transitioning out of prison, addiction, and homelessness. Through spiritual guidance, life skills, and community, we help men replace the hopelessness of their past with the hope and direction needed for a new beginning.

VISION - 419 Ministries envisions a growing network of Christ-centered homes where men can experience healing, develop life skills, and step confidently into their God-given purpose. We aim to see lives restored, families strengthened, and cycles of brokenness replaced with hope, stability, and long-term transformation. Our vision is to create a community where every man has the support he needs to thrive—spiritually, emotionally, and practically.

Helping men rebuild their lives and discover their God-given purpose.

Our History

419 Ministries began in 2011 with a simple act of obedience. A man was preparing to leave prison with nowhere to go, and someone stepped forward to meet that need. A small house on 6th Street was purchased, and within a short time, three men were living there — each searching for stability, community, and hope. Word spread quickly, and men continued to arrive, looking for a place to start over.

As the need grew, so did the ministry. Another home was purchased just two doors down, expanding our capacity and allowing us to serve even more men. Today, we regularly house more than 20 residents at a time, offering them structure, support, and a Christ-centered environment where transformation can take root.

What began as one house and one opportunity to help has grown into a board-led ministry impacting hundreds of men across Quincy and the surrounding area. In just a few years, more than 100 men have found shelter, guidance, and a path forward through our homes — all without government funding or agency assistance. Our growth is a testament not to our efforts, but to God’s faithfulness and the calling found in Matthew 4:19: to be fishers of men and lead them toward the life-changing hope of Jesus Christ.

Statement of Faith

As an interdenominational organization, we do not require residents to hold specific denominational doctrines. However, as a distinctly Christ-centered ministry, we expect our residents, partner churches, and volunteers to affirm the central tenets of the historic Christian faith as outlined below.
WE BELIEVE in one sovereign God, eternally existing in three persons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

WE BELIEVE that the scriptures are fully inspired, trustworthy, and of supreme and final authority in all that they say.

WE BELIEVE that Jesus Christ was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, was truly God and truly man, existing in person and without sin; and we believe in the literal, bodily resurrection of the crucified body of our Lord, in His ascension into heaven and in His present life there for us as Lord of all, High Priest and advocate.

WE BELIEVE that “all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” (Rom. 3:23), and thereby incurred both physical and spiritual death.

WE BELIEVE in the existence of Satan, sin, and evil powers, and that all have been defeated by God in the cross of Christ.

WE BELIEVE that the Lord Jesus Christ died for our sins, according to the Scriptures, as a representative and substitutional sacrifice, triumphing over all evil; and that all who believe in Him are justified by His shed blood and forgiven of all their sins.

WE BELIEVE that it is only through the person and work of Jesus Christ that one can receive God’s forgiveness and obtain eternal life with God.

WE BELIEVE that the Holy Spirit indwells and gives life to believers, enables them to understand the scriptures, empowers them for godly living, and equips them for service and witness

WE BELIEVE that one, holy, universal church is the body of Christ and is composed of the communities of Christ’s people. The task of Christ’s people in this world is to be God’s redeemed community, embodying His love by worshiping God with confession, prayer, and praise; but proclaiming the gospel of God’s redemptive love through our Lord Jesus Christ to the ends of the earth by word and deed; by caring for all of God’s creation and actively seeking the good in everyone, especially the poor and needy.
